Operation Teen Safe Driving

As of January 1, 2012, all occupants of a vehicle must wear a seat belt in every seat inside the vehicle.

On December 5, 2012, members of the Rock Island High School OPERATION TEEN SAFE DRIVING committee sponsored by the KEY CLUB conducted a hidden survey of traffic on 25th Avenue. The survey took place between the hours of 0730 am to 0830 am. They observed 161 vehicles travelling on 25th avenue during that hour.

They observed:             85 drivers not wearing a seat belt

49 front seat passengers not wearing a seat belt

10 rear seat passengers not wearing a seat belt

The team also observed multiple drivers using a electronic device while driving. They observed both students and parents using their phones. Rock Island High School has several street signs reminding drivers not to use cellular phones in the school zone.
